After some impulsive thinking, I’ve decided to move mylifeasateacup over to blogspot. To make a long story short, I like some of the options better there, and so that’s where I’ll be from now on!

Death of a Bounty Hunter
via John Karpinsky

♥ My Aunt Patti and cousins were in town on Monday so we met up at Dozen for some cherry vanilla cupcakes which we then proceeded to eat in the car and share poetry about smelly socks and letters addressed to Jordan Staal. My family is awesome.

♥ Back in January? February? I applied for a position as an undergraduate teaching assistant for one of the English Literature classes here at the university and I just got word that I’ve been accepted! It won’t be until the spring term, but I’m already super excited to start planning for the class :)

♥ Kallie asked me if I had an old drawings she gave to me from high school and seeing how I keep one big storage box of old, nostalgic things, I procured it with little difficulty. I distinctly remember this fella’ arising from a discussion we had about the ‘w’ in the word ‘answer’. And thus, “Answar the Barbarian!” was born:

Answar the Barbarian

Little things that made me smile

LETS GO. ♥ the smell of Thai food wafting down Bigelow ♥ the desire to go backpacking ♥ chatting and hilarious stories with the very best of friends ♥ homemade stuffed shells…Mmm! ♥ the best boyfriend in the universe ♥ scheduling for my last fall term ♥ power yoga ♥ a wonderful 30 days of Lists!

One Term Down…

29 Mar

…one to go! Well, one more left to register for, that is.

I’m registered for classes for my final fall term as an undergrad here at Pitt! Which is a final something, so I’ll take it!

That I only have one more year left is finally sinking in. I haven’t had the greatest time as a college student (though it’s been primarily the institution of college itself rather than the people and things that I’ve been involved with on campus) and I can’t wait to move on to — yep, more school! There’s something encouraging about graduation, even if I’ll just be turning around a week later and coming back to (hopefully) start grad school. Regardless of how things work out, if they go as planned, if not, if I’m still in school for one more year, if not, it feels good to put something in the complete pile.

I’ll be taking two classes in the summer (Educational Psychology and Women in Literature) followed by a fall of:

Emergence of Modern America: Literature from 1860-1914

Social Foundations of Education

Statistics

Science Fiction Literature

Junior Seminar (Utopian/Dystopian Literature)

Fun fact: Taking four intense literature courses involves staying up at all hours and falling asleep in the pages of four simultaneous novels per week. Clearly I’ve learned and have taken this number down to three -.-

But honestly, I’m looking forward to these new classes, as I always do. Though I’m sure after 10 weeks of these classes I’ll get tired of them too, but a change of pace is always invigorating. Except for the math. Math is never invigorating.

And interestingly enough, rather than senioritis, I’ve got a case of “gotta-get-this-done-all-NOW!-so-maybe-I-can-just-graduate-today” fever. Realistic, no, but it’s gotten me out of procrastinating for the remainder of this semester (though I will say that I can’t wait for summer to start so I can watch Supernatural and play Fallout 3 uninterrupted :D).

day 26

26 Mar

via lovely and frightened

My nightstand and bookshelves are overflowing with books that I’ve started, or bought knowing that I have 28 others to read before getting to new ones, but I still can’t help buying them! The library has been my lifesaver and my Kindle nice for portability (I’d definitely recommend one if you’re an avid reader or traveller; a casual one, maybe you won’t get as much use out of it) but I absolutely must own my favorites. And I have a lot of favorites!

I’m not making a list for today because I already have an ongoing list over at GoodReads! A lot of books I’m planning to read for this year are one’s I just haven’t gotten around to/had time to finish like Pride & Prejudice & Zombies (for novelty’s sake), Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a collection of H.P. Lovecraft works, and Kafka on the Shore. I have a list of classics that I’m ashamed I’ve never read! And a few odds and ends here and there.

Though, to be fair I will give you a little list of my favorite authors:

♥ Neil Gaiman
♥ Murakami Haruki
♥ Oscar Wilde
♥ China Mieville
♥ Francesca Lia Block
♥ Jane Austen
♥ Orson Scott Card

Happy reading :)

Things I’d Rather Be Doing Right Now

Today is my day free from classes, but that just means it’s my day to stay home and be responsible, getting all of my final papers started. Believe me, there’ s a lot of things I’d rather be doing than preparing over 30 pages worth of written material.

♥ sleeping
♥ travelling
♥ playing video games
♥ eating ice cream
♥ reading
♥ not reading Paradise Lost

Planning a trip to NYC with Mum. Gram’s never been on a plane and after years of trying to talk her into it we’ve done it! The last time I was there it was only briefly and I feel like all of our time was spent waiting in line for the ferry to the Statue of Liberty. So I’m counting this as my real first time :) Any suggestions of must-do/see things?

Thunderstorms! I feel like its been so long since we’ve had one, and the smell and look and feel of things are all very refreshing and spring. Not so much a fan of the hail that I got stuck in and man jeans getting soaked through and plastered to my thighs, but I’m trying to stay positive here.

♥ I love my Kindle dearly – it made my 24 hours on a plane last summer fly by without shoving an entire library in my carry-on - but nothing beats real, live, books. Believe it or not, after being a college student for 3 years, I first set foot into the campus library yesterday. Honestly, I usually end up across the street at the Carnegie which is more novel-esque books, but when term papers came calling, I had a “duh” moment and finally ended up in Hillman. Regardless of which library it is, nothing compares to holding a bound book in your hands, stretching up on your toes to reach the top shelf, and having a due date for a little extra motivation.

little loves ♥ emails from lovely readers ♥ friends who cook amazing food and send it your way ♥ b&b confirmation for Gettysburg! ♥ old hardcover books ♥ being ahead of schedule ♥ mint tea ♥ breaking out the flip flops (nevermind that I had just put away my snowboots the day before and lo’ and behold, here I am two days later with the boots out again -.-) ♥ steak! ♥ the soundtrack to Lost ♥ William Blake

Overall a short and pretty laid-back week :) What have you been loving this week?
